For Apprentices
- What are the requirements to apply?
You must be at least 18 years old, physically able to perform the work of the trade, and willing to work full-time. A valid driver’s license is highly recommended. A high school diploma or GED is not required. - How much does the program cost?
There’s no tuition cost to you. Your employer sponsors your education. You’ll earn a paycheck while learning—without any college debt. - How long is the program?
Most programs are 4 years and include 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 600 classroom instruction hours. - Do I need experience to apply?
No experience is necessary! The program is designed to teach you everything from the ground up. You just need a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. - Will I get paid during the program?
Yes! You are a full-time employee and receive raises as you progress through the program and build your skills. - What kind of credential will I earn?
Upon completion of the program, you’ll earn a nationally recognized Certificate of Completion from the Florida Department of Education, a Certificate of Apprenticeship from Santa Fe College, and a trade-specific certificate from NCCER, Mike Holt, or HBI, depending on the curriculum used in your trade. - What trades can I choose from?
Currently, the program offers Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, and Building Maintenance. - What does a typical week look like?
You’ll work full-time during the day with your employer and attend classes two nights per week at Santa Fe College during the fall and spring semesters.

- Why should I hire an apprentice through this program?

You’re building your talent pipeline while reducing turnover and training costs. Most employers see increased retention, improved job performance, and long-term loyalty from apprentices. - Do I have to be a BANCF member to participate?
Yes. All participating employers must be members of the Builders Association of North Central Florida (BANCF). If you’re not a member yet, we’ll help you get started. - What are my responsibilities as an employer?
You agree to employ the apprentice full-time, track their on-the-job training hours, and support their classroom education. We provide the structure, reporting tools, and guidance to make it easy. - How do I get started?
Just contact the BANCF office. We’ll help you get registered and provide a quick overview of how the program works, including a little training to bring you up to speed. It’s a simple process, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. - What support will I receive?
You’ll have access to a dedicated Apprenticeship Coordinator, reporting templates, instructor updates, and regular program communication.

- Is this program a good alternative to college?
Absolutely. Apprentices earn while they learn, receive nationally recognized credentials, and avoid student debt. Many graduates earn $60K+ within a few years of completing the program. - Is this program safe for young adults?
Yes. Safety is built into the curriculum and reinforced daily on the job. Apprentices are trained in OSHA standards and supervised by experienced professionals. - What’s the long-term potential of a skilled trade career?
Trades are in high demand across the country, with excellent pay and advancement opportunities. Many apprentices go on to become foremen, supervisors, business owners, or contractors. - Can students earn college credit through this program?
Yes! Apprentices receive college credit for their coursework at Santa Fe College, which can be applied toward a degree in Construction Management if they choose. - What types of students are a good fit?
